Ridgefield Trace is a paved trail that is currently in three distinct sections that offer residents a safe mode of travel whether by foot, bike or rollerblade. Once all sections link (2018) the complete route will extend primarily along Route 14 for 7.5 miles from Lake Ave. in Woodstock to Walkup Ave. in Crystal Lake. Cyclists could then connect through Veteran Acres Park and link with the District’s north-south Prairie Trail.
The route currently is divided into two sections and dead ends from both sides at Oak St. in Crystal Lake due to an active railroad crossing and funding for a safe passage. The District has been working on solutions and has received support from the McHenry County Conservation Foundation, McHenry funding to complete this link.
Did you Know? Route 14 was originally an Indian trail (also known as a trace) and Ridgefield was on of the first towns in the area.
