This club is intended to encourage parents and grandparents to get out into McHenry County Conservation District sites with their children for the purpose of enjoying outdoor free time and spontaneous explorations in nature as well as the opportunity for learning about the natural history of McHenry County.

 

The benefits of being FOX members are many including fresh air, exercise, quality family time, and a chance to learn more about nature. In addition, a child's positive interaction with the environment may lead to a life-long interest in enjoying and conserving nature.

For a one-time membership fee of $20.00 per family, you will receive:

• a family exploration backpack which includes a journal to keep track of your time and activities, MCCD site and informational brochures, a list of suggested activities and additional resources, a disposable camera, and more!
• a quarterly newsletter with seasonal activities and ideas
• a club gathering 3 times per year
• a yearly parent activity workshop
• a chance to network with other like-minded outdoor families
• additional prizes for hourly milestones

As your family reaches specific milestone hours in your explorations, you will receive additional rewards, including having your family name engraved on the MCCD FOX plaque hung at the Prairieview Education Center.

50 hours: Green neck tote OR spiral notebook; and 1 bug box/child
125 hours: MCCD lunch bag OR water bottle OR golf visor
250 hours: Child-laminated field guide (Adult - MCCD mug)
365 hours: Family name on FOX Club plaque and one FREE camping weekend at Marengo Ridge, Thomas Woods Campground.
