Zones
- District staff will set zones within each site. In some cases, the archery zones will be different from the firearm zones. Firearm zones will be set so they remain at least 1,000 feet from any occupied dwelling. The State statute for this distance is 900 feet.
- Stands must be placed within the zone according to the instructions on the zone map. All hunter-owned stands must be portable elevated stands and must be set up and removed by the participant.
- For the archery hunt, up to three hunters may hunt at a time in a zone. For the firearms portion of the hunt, only one member of the group may hunt in the zone at a time except at Kishwaukee Corridor Zones 3 and 4. In that case, the large archery zone will be divided into two firearms zones.
Applications
Combo Deer Hunting applicants may submit their application with one or two partners. It is the same application for archery only and the combo hunt.
Participant Selection:
Participants will be selected through a lottery.
Lottery point system: During the 2010 season, a hunter received one point for each female deer harvested. An applicant who was not chosen in the lottery for the 2010 season will receive five points. This point system will be used in the 2011 lottery to give preference to hunters who harvest does and those who did not get into the program the previous year. For the combo hunt lottery, a hunter’s total points for both the 2010 archery program and the 2010 firearms program will be counted. The total of all the applicants’ points on a partner application will be used for the lottery.
