This remnant of glacial activity contains gravel kames, kettles, restored prairies, oak savannas and wetlands. Lost Valley Visitor Center, Powers-Walker historic homestead, Wiedrich Barn and Research Field Station also exist on the site. Recreational opportunities include hiking, biking, canoeing, horseback riding, picnicking, cross country skiing, snowmobiling and wildlife viewing.

Fishing is allowed along Nippersink Creek (need to specify locations so visitors don't think they can wade just anywhere along the creek? include Pioneer Rd. pond?) with a valid license. Fishermen must obey all State of Illinois fishing regulations and any other posted site-specific regulations.

Interpretive trail guides: Four guides (Geology, Cultural History, Plant Life and Wildlife) are available at the Lost Valley Visitor Center. The two-mile interpretive trail begins at the Visitor Center parking lot and follows the Deerpath trail loop. Experience this 3,300-acre gem while you discover the natural heritage of your surroundings.
