Where do I register?

What is the entry fee?
$30.00 April 1–July 31
$35 Adults 14+ /$20 Youth 5-13, August 1-Oct. 4, 5:00 p.m.
$42 Adults 14+ /$20 Youth 5-13, on Race Day: Register onsite 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. (cash or check payment only)

What does the entry fee include?
Race registration fee, t-shirt, swag bag, race day snacks, and finisher medallion.

Can I get a refund if I register but don’t run?
There are no refunds or transfers available for this event. By registering, you are agreeing to this refund policy.

What is your race cancellation policy?
The Run Wild: Race for Open Space 5K is held rain or shine. In the event the race is cancelled due to conditions out of the McHenry County Conservation District’s control (inclement or unsafe weather conditions; local, state or national emergency) refunds are not issued. Participants are notified of a cancellation by 7:00 a.m. on race day. Race bags including race t-shirts will be available for pick-up Monday, October 7–Saturday October 11 at the Prairieview Education Center during open hours.  By registering, you are agreeing to this cancellation policy.

When is the race start time?
8:30 a.m. sharp. All participants must complete the course by 9:30 a.m.

Is there a map of the course?
Yes, you can view and download a copy here.  
  
What is the terrain of the course like?
The terrain of the course is moderately hilly and travels through prairie, woodland and wetland habitats. Some lowland areas may be wet and potentially muddy. Wear shoes that you are comfortable getting wet and muddy in case of wet trail conditions.

Is there parking onsite?
Parking is onsite at Hickory Grove Conservation Area (500 Hickory Nut Grove Ln., Cary).

If needed overflow parking will be at Fel-Pro RRR Conservation Area (1520 Crystal Lake Rd., Cary, IL 60013), a 1.5 mile distance from the race site. A free shuttle service will be provided before and after the race. Last shuttle will be at 11:00 a.m. Parking is onsite at Hickory Grove Conservation Area (500 Hickory Nut Grove Ln., Cary).

Will there be awards after the race?
Yes, the awards ceremony is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in the finishing area. 

What are the award categories?
Awards are will be presented to the overall male and female finisher, also to the top finisher in each age category: Youth 5-8, 9-13; Adult 14–19, 20–24, 25–29, 30–34, 35–39, 40–44, 45–49, 50–54, 55–59, 60–64, 65–69, 70+. Out of respect for all award winners you must be present to receive your award.  No awards will be mailed.

Will food and water be available after the race?
Yes, light snacks and water are provided at the finish line. In addition a water station is located at the halfway point of the course.

Where do I get my race bib and bag?
Pick up your race bib and bag on Friday, October 4, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Prairieview Education Center, 2112 Behan Road, Crystal Lake, IL 60014, or at the race site on the race day 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Note! You must be registered by 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2 to pick up your race bag on Friday, October 4. If you register after 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, your bag will be available for pick up 7:00-8:00 a.m. the day of the race at the race site. 

Will there be a gear check area onsite?
Yes, there is a gear check area onsite, for race bags only, beginning at 7:00 a.m.  A volunteer will attend to gear check but belongings are left at your own risk.

Can I register onsite?
Yes, onsite registration is available 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. on race day at the registration booth.  The day of registration fee is $42 Adults 14+ / $20 Youth 5-13 (cash or check only).

Who do I contact if I am interested in volunteering?
We welcome help for a variety of race day stations and pre-race day tasks. Volunteer jobs include but are not limited to bag pickup, registration assistance, course water station attendant, post-race food and water station attendant, and assistance putting together pre-race packets. If you are interested in volunteering pre-race day or on race day contact Education@MCCDistrict.org or (815) 479-5779.

Who do I contact if I am interested in sponsoring the event?
A variety of sponsorship opportunities are available starting at $25 for both monetary and in kind donations. Contact MCCD@MCCDistrict.org for additional information.
