Once there is 4 inches of snow, outdoor enthusiasts can glide over 40 miles of cross-country ski trails at 16 different sites throughout the county. Please check site closures and trail conditions before heading out. Trails marked with a * will be packed and tracked when there is 4 inches of snow or more.

Want to ski on solar lit trails? Two sites (Pleasant Valley and Hickory Grove HIghlands) over sections of solar-lit trail, open until 9 p.m. beginning in November.
Skate Ski Trail at Silver Creek
When you have a snowy winter, people are looking for more ways to get out and enjoy! Try the Skate Ski Trail at Silver Creek Conservation Area, 1200 Block of Rawson Bridge Road, Cary. A skate ski trail differs from a traditional cross- country ski trail by being packed, but not tracked. The trail at Silver Creek is a 1 ½ mile, relatively flat, trail loop.
Rent at Glacial Park!
Once there is 5″ of snow or more rent a pair of snowshoes from Lost Valley Visitor Center in Glacial Park.
$10 all day, CASH ONLY. Drivers’ license and $20 CASH ONLY deposit required.
Rental Hours: 10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (last rental at 2:30 p.m.)
Men’s, women’s, and children sizes available; first-come, first-served.
