McHenry County snowmobile trails do not open until December 10th, even if there is snow before this date. The Conservation District has over 17 miles of snowmobile trails in Glacial Park and along the Prairie Trail that connect with numerous County trails. Snowmobile trails open when there is at least 4″ of snowfall on frozen ground; 6″ snow on unfrozen ground.
Note: When snowmobile trails are open, the Prairie Trail North in Glacial Park and Rush Creek horse trails are CLOSED to all other recreational activities.
Printed County snowmobile trail maps are available at the Lost Valley Visitor Center in Glacial Park, Ringwood for a suggested donation of $3, which goes to the McHenry County Snowmobile Association for trail maintenance and grooming. Also visit the McHenry County Snowmobile Association’s Facebook page for information on other businesses in the county that have trail maps available.
